Anita Garza Hernandez, was born on May 14, 1942 in Helena, TX to Timoteo Garza, Sr. and Estanislada Collins-Vasquez Garza. She was raised in Runge, TX along with her six siblings in the most humblest of means. She met and married her husband, Ruben Lerma Hernandez of over 40 years and raised five children.
Anita had a passion for life, family and the Lord. She loved to write, bake, read, collect antiques, feed her birds and create floral arrangements. She served as Treasurer of Lion of Judah Christian Church for over 20 years where she was an active member. Her beautiful spirit and ability to counsel was valued and loved by so many. She had a very humble demeanor and was always there for her family and friends. She led a life deep rooted in love for our Lord Jesus Christ. Her faith was exemplified in her loving and generous spirit, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.
She quietly departed this life on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 in the comfort of her home with her family and in care of Trinity Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Lerma Hernandez; her daughter, Elizabeth Hernandez; her brothers, Edward Garza and Juan Garza and her parents.
Her life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, Peggy Lomas (Matthew), Irene Munoz (Rudy, Sr.), Ronald Hernandez (Donna) and Christie Hernandez. She also has five grandchildren, Elizabeth Kalz (Stephen), Deanna Hill (Phillip), James Inglis, Rudy Munoz,Jr. and Liana Hernandez; her great-granddaughter, Hailey Hill. She is survived by her siblings, Maria Navarro, Janie Medina, Malie Martinez and Timoteo Garza, Jr. along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 12, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd. San Antonio, Texas 78237 with the Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Latin American Cemetery in Runge City .
