

She served as P.T.A. President for the James Bowie Elementary chapter in the early 1960's. She also served as President of the Thomas Payne Society, a community service organization based at St. Agnes Church where she had been a parish member all her life. As president, she was instrumental in petitioning and presenting her petition to the San Antonio City Council which resulted in the construction of a bridge on Delgado St. for the safe passage of children to and from both James Bowie Elementary and Washington Irving Junior High Schools during periods of flooding.
Encouraged by Bishop Yanta, she became an employee of the San Antonio Youth Organization as an Outreach Service Liaison. She also was a State Employee with the Texas Employment Commission as a Job Interviewer and retired.
She was preceded in death by grandsons, Richard Cardenas and Gilbert Martinez. She is survived by her children, Jo Ann Lopez, Alfredo Lopez, Jose Lopez and wife Jackie, Ernest Guzman, Gilbert Guzman and wife Gloria, Mrs. Bertha Alizzi and husband Louis, and Mrs. Angela R. Brown; grandchildren, Mrs. Barbara Jean Zavala, Mrs. Cynthia Ann Peralta, Sandra Jean Buitron, Mrs. Andrea Lynn Matt, Mrs. Joanne Ruiz, Jennifer Garner, and Mr. David Anthony Guzman; great grandchildren, Mrs. Dawn Marie Walker, Mrs. Michelle Lee Machlec, Sandra Garcia, Mark Garcia, Rebecca Peralta, Roger Buitron, Jr., Joseph Garcia, Juan Valentin Ruiz, Julian Alejandro Ruiz, Richard Cardenas, Jr. Tyffany Guzman, and Danielle Guzman; great great grandchildren, Richard Cardenas, III, Amber Renee Duran, Patrick Ethan Machlec, Crystal Ann Machlec, Brianna Cheyanne Walker, Steven Ramon, Alex Ramon, Jonathan Estrada, Manuel Estrada, Mark Garcia, Jr. Elizabeth Garcia, and Roxanne Garcia; and one great great great grandchild, Sky Amber Ramon.
In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Lopez is to be cremated. A Memorial Mass will be planned for the future.
