Ann Seale Gunderson passed away peacefully at the age of 95 at the Avanti Senior Living on Friday, May 24, 2024, in Spring, TX. Ann was born on September 16, 1928 to Minnie Elvara Holstine Seale and Leonard Dewey Seale. She had two brothers, Franklin and Charles. Throughout her life, her mothers’ sister, “Aunt Jane,” who called Ann, “Missy,” was a constant whom Ann loved dearly until Jane’s passing on January 14, 2012.
Ann would describe herself as a child as quiet and reserved. One of her fondest memories was winning a Shirley Temple doll at a department store contest for performing the best “curtsy” of all the young girls. Her mom would spend hours pin-curling her hair and also sewing her pretty dresses. The curtsy contest was out of her comfort zone, and she won it two years in a row.
Ann loved to make paper dolls out of the JC Penney catalog pages. She would create clothing for her dolls using colorful advertisements throughout the books. She also loved to dance which she continued to enjoy throughout her life. She had a very sweet nature which drew people to her. She was a very meticulous and detailed person. Ann always looked ‘put together’ with her beautiful hair and her ‘bling’ perfectly matching whatever outfit she chose for the day! Her record keeping was extremely organized and detailed, and she used this talent well throughout her life.
Ann grew up in Bartlett, Texas and graduated from Bartlett High School on May 14, 1946. She then went on to attend Durhams Business College in San Antonio where she earned a degree in Executive Secretarial Service which she completed on March 20, 1947. She returned to Bartlett and worked for Bartlett Electric Co-Op. She then moved to Houston, TX and went to work for the Shell Oil Company in the Land Development Department. When she ‘retired’ she moved to Pleasanton, TX with her husband, W.T. (Bill) Cooper, to be close to her mother and Aunt Jane. After Bill’s passing, she moved to San Antonio, where she met and married her next two “sweeties.”
In this life a woman is blessed to meet and marry one special man. Over her lifetime, Ann found herself three such men! On July 1, 1967, she married William ‘Bill’ Tyre Cooper of Houston, TX and had 20 happy years with him until his passing on January 10, 1987. In 1989, she next married Floyd Durwood “Dur” Pledger of San Antonio and shared 14 wonderful years together until his passing on March 2, 2003.After Dur’s passing, she began dating her next-door neighbor and good friend Tony Anton Gunderson. They married on December 23, 2006, and had 16 fun filled years until Tony’s passing on June 14, 2022. Ann continued her joy of dancing with all her husbands. Later in life with Tony, they also enjoyed going on cruises and heading to the casinos in Louisiana and Oklahoma.
Though Ann never had biological children, she had 11 stepchildren by marriage whom she loved as her own. From her marriage to Bill, Margaret Ann Godwin (Rob), William Tyre (Bill) Cooper (Betty Jane), and Cathryn (Cathy) Cooper; from her marriage to Dur, Wayne, James and Lisa Pledger; from her marriage to Tony, Connie, Terri Romaneck (John), Cindy Wells (Bruce), Steven Gunderson (Robin), and Thomas Gunderson; grandchildren, John Scott Godwin (Jennifer), Brian Frank Godwin (Romy), Misty Cooper Dunlap, Danielle Cooper, Grace Arruda-Louppert (Ethan), Ariana Gunderson and Alex Rogala; great grandchildren, Jessica M.
