She was born in San Antonio on November 30, 1945, to Lloyd and Bernice Denton. She graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1963. After spending one year at Sweet Briar College in Virginia, she transferred to the University of Texas at Austin. She graduated with a B.B.A. in 1967. She married Cone J. Wells on July 20, 1969, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in San Antonio. They had two children, David and Laura. Ann and Cone divorced in 2000 but remained close friends for the rest of her life.
Ann worked at the family business, Denton Development Company, for many years. She also worked as a CPA. She gave her time to numerous charities, nonprofits, and causes, including the Battle of Flowers Association, Morningside Ministries, St. Luke’s Episcopal School, the St. Luke’s Episcopal School Endowment Fund, and Planned Parenthood of South Texas.
Ann had a kind and generous spirit. She was always happy to help others. She loved visiting the beach at South Padre Island with family and friends. For many years, she was passionate about caring for the many cats that lived in Olmos Basin behind her home on Crescent Street.
Ann is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Meghan Wells of Austin; her son-in-law, Michael Bowers of San Antonio; her brother and sister-in-law, Laddie and Camille Denton of San Antonio; her friend and ex-husband, Cone J. Wells of San Antonio; and countless other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Laura Wells Bowers; her parents, Lloyd and Bernice Denton; her grandparents, Webb and Stella Denton and Linzy and Sallie Ann Barnett; and many beloved dogs and cats.
A Memorial will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, at 10:00 A.M., at 11 St. Luke's Lane in San Antonio, on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Planned Parenthood of South Texas, the Animal Defense League of Texas, the Alzheimer’s Association San Antonio & South Texas Chapter, or the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation.
The family would like to express their gratitude to those who helped Ann through the past few years, including Nikki Mojica, Connie Mojica, Mary Ross, the caregivers at Avenues Home Care, and the staff at Gentiva.
