

Passed away peacefully in her sleep in Oakton, VA. Anne Preston was a San Antonio area resident for more than 70 years before moving to Virginia in 2012 to be with family. She was born in Douglas, AZ to LTC Benjamin Warriner, US Army Medical Corps, and Adelaide Acree Warriner. She graduated from Saint Mary’s Hall in 1934 and from Sweet Briar College in Virginia in 1938. She received an MA from the University of Texas before beginning a teaching and counseling career in San Antonio. With unending intellectual curiosity, she read and travelled widely. Her many interests included handweaving and Hands in Outreach, a charity educating girls in Nepal. Her marriage to COL Charles Sherburne ended in divorce.
She was predeceased by her second husband, Abram Prince, by her brother, Benjamin Warriner IV, and by a son, Charles Sherburne Jr. She is survived by son John Sherburne (wife Rosemary); grandchildren John Sherburne, Jr. (Sara) and Lara Dolata (David); and by great grandchildren Benjamin Sherburne, and Katherine and Elizabeth Dolata.
