Anita “Annie” Perez Zamarripa peacefully entered her eternal home on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the age of 99. A beloved wife, mother, five generation grandmother for 25 years, aunt, comadre, godmother, and cherished friend, Annie leaves a legacy of love and light that will forever shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
Born on May 10, 1926, to Adolfo and Josephina Perez, Annie spent her entire life in San Antonio, Texas, a city she dearly loved. She married the love of her life, Pete Zamarripa on August 29, 1943, and together they shared 70 years of marriage. Annie worked as a skilled bookkeeper at Wolf & Marx and Joske’s Department Stores, and later managed Panchito’s Plaza de Armas in City Hall, where she forged lifelong friendships and countless memories. Annie's vibrant spirit made her the heart of her home and a pillar of her community.
Annie’s devotion was to her familia, who lovingly crowned her their "Reina." She was the last of the first generation of the Perez familia. Her happiest moments were: card games with friends and family, watching her novelas, shopping, watching sports, and upholding family traditions. She was an avid sports fan who never missed her grandchildren’s games.
Annie was a devoted member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, where she attended daily 6:00 am mass with her friends, the Holy Sixers. She served as a eucharistic minister, sacristan, and homebound minister. She participated in the Catholic Daughters, the altar society, and countless other ministries. She was also a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Altar Society. A true prayer warrior, Annie began and ended each day with heartfelt prayers, offering her unwavering support and love to those around her.
Annie was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Zamarripa; parents, Adolfo and Josephina Perez; brothers, Adolfo, Armando, and Alberto Perez; sisters, Audrey Cantu and Judy McCoy; children, Yoli Z. Campos and Petey Zamarripa; son-in-law, Howard R. Leos Sr.; and grandson, Leonard R. Leos III. She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Leos and Patti Ledwig (Tim); six grandchildren, Howard R. Leos Jr. (Lisa), Hilary Boley (Lee), Harriet Alvarado (Jimmie), Heidi Deal (Johnny), Jeannee' Murray (David), and Andrew Campbell (Alyssia); eleven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ricardo Garza, Dr. Ernesto Guerra, and Dr. Maria Luna for their compassionate care.
The rosary will be on Thursday, June 12th at 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 10703 Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, TX 78230. There will be a reception to immediately follow in the Parish Hall. The Catholic Rite of Committal will take place immediately after the reception at San Fernando Cemetery #2, 746 Castroville Road, San Antonio, TX 78237.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Annie’s memory to Catholic Daughters Court St. Matthew #2241.
