Tony was born in Fratt, Texas, to Salome Cardenas and Pilar Quesada Gamez. He was a devoted brother to Dora Ozuniga, Ruben Cardenas, and Felipe Gamez, and a cherished uncle to 16 nieces and nephews.
Tony lived an admirable life marked by service, dedication, and strong relationships. He proudly served his country as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he began a distinguished career with the federal government as an investigator for the EEOC, where he built lifelong friendships.
In 1959, Tony married his first wife, Lupe Dominguez, who preceded him in death in 1994. Together they raised four children: Anthony (deceased), Arnold (deceased; survived by Susan), Eric (Jennifer), and Valerie Martin (Mike). He was a proud grandfather to Elizabeth and Noah Cardenas.
Tony later married his devoted wife, Aida Guerra. They shared 31 wonderful years together, enjoying retirement, traveling, and spending time with their family. He embraced his role as a father to Sara Johnson (Cory), Liana Melton (Erik), and Benjamin Cardenas, a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps who followed in his father’s footsteps. Tony was also a loving grandfather to Luke and Logan Johnson.
In Bulverde, Texas, Tony built a beautiful home and founded a successful business, AAVEL Contracting, which he took great pride in and enjoyed immensely.
Tony will be remembered as a true gentleman—kind, generous, stoic, and deeply loyal, with a warm and memorable sense of humor. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.
