
Antonio Escalante, age 91, went to be with the Lord on December 2, 2005. Antonio, "Tony", was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico on June 13, 1914. He came to Amarillo in 1945 to work for the Santa Fe Railroad; while there he met his wife, Nellie Ornelas. They were married in 1945 and had eleven children and thirteen grandchildren.
Tony is preceded in death by his son, Joel; two brothers, and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Nellie; his children, Efraim Escalante and wife, Gloria of Golden CO; Cecilia Escalante of Chicago, IL; Cesar Escalante and wife, Libby of Houston, TX; Evangelina Cevallos and husband, Joe of San Antonio, TX; Sally Lacke and husband, Doug of Waukesha, WI; Elizabeth Escalante of San Antonio, TX; Annie Elias and husband, Peter of Richardson, TX; Leticia Escalante of Amarillo, TX; Delfin Escalante of San Antonio, TX; Brenda Moreno and husband, Jesse of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Ana Escalante; Yolanda Escalante; Veronica Johnson, Armando Escalante; Damian La Kemper; Anthony Escalante; Ethan Escalante; Joel La Kemper; Dillon Lacke; Austin Lacke; Marina Moreno; Diego Moreno and Marcos Elias; sisters, Beatriz Escalante and Leonor Escalante both of San Luis Potosi, Mexico; brothers, Felipe Escalante of Amarillo, TX.; Fernando Escalante of San Luis Potosi, Mexico; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Tony was full of life until a week before his passing. He loved baseball, basketball, walking, reading, traveling, and especially spending time with his family. Tony was a true patriarch in every sense of the word, his family was his life. Tony will be greatly missed but will continue to live through the legacy he has left behind with his children and grandchildren.
