Antonio Raymond Prado

Born on September 21, 1928, in New York City to Jesús Prado Leiras and Ermitas Martínez Alvarez, Antonio grew up in Queens, where he completed his early education at PS122. A bright and disciplined student, he attended Admiral Billard Academy in New London, Connecticut, graduating in 1946, before continuing his studies at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. In 1950, he proudly graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree and was commissioned as an Ensign.

Antonio went on to serve his country with distinction. After an honorable discharge from the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1950, he accepted a commission with the United States Air Force. He trained as a pilot at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas where he was appointed 2nd Lt United States Air Force and continued with Advanced Multiengine Pilot Training at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas, serving until his honorable discharge in 1953.

In 1957, Antonio married Gloria Rodriguez Acuña of Detroit, Michigan. Together they built a strong and loving family and a life filled with adventure and resilience, first in Caracas, Venezuela, then Saratoga, California, and later Mexico City, where they raised their three children: Richard Anthony, Susan Marie, and Cynthia Lucia. In 2007, Antonio and Gloria settled in San Antonio, Texas, where they spent their later years surrounded by family, including his granddaughters Sofia and Valeria.

Antonio is remembered for his devotion to his family, his pride in his heritage, and his steadfast character. His legacy lives on in his children, grandchildren and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Gloria; his children Susan, and Cynthia; grandchildren Sofia and Valeria; and his devoted family and friends across the United States, Mexico, Spain and beyond.

A graveside service will take place on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 11:15 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at Committal Shelter 2, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
