Arlene Stanfield Dupree, age 70, passed away August 13, 2023, at her home in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on March 3, 1953, at Fort Jackson Army Post, South Carolina to Joseph Javan Stanfield, Sr., and Hettie Washington Stanfield.
Arlene was preceded in death by her father; one child, Lawrence Cameron Dupree; two brothers, Joseph Javan Stanfield, Jr., and Henry Christopher Stanfield, and one sister, Janice Doreen Stanfield.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Senior Master Sergeant (U. S. Air Force Retired) John Warren Dupree; two children, Brian Christopher Dupree (Julia) and Erica Renae Dupree; her mother, and one brother, Julius Melvin Stanfield. Additionally, three nieces, LaDonna Cheria Stanfield, Kimberly Nicole Stanfield, and Quntasia Denisha Stanfield. Two aunts, Celia Stanfield Price, and Esther Stanfield Black; college roommate and lifelong friend Laura Ann Heller, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and close and dear friends.
Arlene was first and foremost a passionate servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She always had words of wisdom and advice rooted in the Word of God and her love for Him. She was also a dedicated wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. If you knew her very long, you knew her heart, and you very quickly became a part of her extended family. Once you were there, there was no going anywhere else. Arlene was intentional in her desire to connect with those whose paths she crossed whether it be friends, co-workers, her students, women of the church, the medical professionals who cared for her, and even down to restaurant wait staff. It is likely an encounter that you had with Arlene left you better. Arlene was a trained social worker, but as she accompanied her husband around the world on various military assignments, she answered God’s call and dedicated her life to Christian education as a teacher for over 33 years, piano teacher, Sunday School teacher, women’s ministry leader, church musician, and pastor’s wife. Arlene loved spending time traveling with her family, seeing, and experiencing moments that will last in their hearts and minds forever. She also loved to write notes and send cards to her family and friends, sometimes for a specific occasion, and at other times just because. Arlene truly demonstrated a heart of service and love for others.
A visitation will be at the Leon Valley Baptist Church, 7990 Grissom Road, San Antonio, Texas on Thursday, August 24, 2023, beginning at 10:30 A.M. with a funeral service at 11:30 A.M.
Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery
