Armando “Mando” Villarreal, Sr. was born in Lockhart, Texas to Miguel Villarreal, Sr. and Josefa Martinez on October 4, 1949. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Southwest Texas State University. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force from 1969-1973. He then worked for the Federal Government serving in the capacity as a civil service servant, where he retired after 32 years. As a civil service servant, he had the opportunity to travel to the world and visit different countries such as; England, Belgium, and other European and Asian countries. He was awarded the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal awarded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Outstanding Unit Award for performing meritorious service, accomplished specific acts of outstanding achievement, and excelled in combat operations against an armed enemy of the United States.
He was an avid fisherman and took every opportunity to get into to the water. He had a life-long love of old Western movies, books and shows. Mando’s passion was spending time and keeping up with his family. He was a family man, and remained close to offer advice to his kids and grandkids. He was proud of his family’s accomplishments. Mando leaves behind a legacy of love and encouragement to pursue a better life through hard work and education. His greatest wish was for is family to remain close and continue to look out for one another.
He was married to Clemencia, Maria, Selia and Marlene. Mando is survived by his wife, Marlene Mendiola Aranda, six biological children: son Armando Villarreal, Jr. and wife Ruby, son Armando M. Villarreal Jr. and wife Cris, son Roland Villarreal and wife Holly, daughter Keziah Villarreal and partner Mark, son Miguel Villarreal and wife Monica and daughter Amanda Canty and husband Joshua; eight stepchildren : Yvonne, Cynthia, Norma, Roy, Marcos, Yesenia, Albert and George; 65 grandchildren; 70 great grandchildren; sisters, Maria Vasquez and Thelma Villarreal, brothers Miguel Villarreal Jr., and Rogelio Villarreal and host of extended family including nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother Emilio Villarreal, Sr.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-9:00 PM and rosary at 6:00 PM at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, on October 28, 2020. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on October 29, 2020 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 535 New Laredo Highway, San Antonio, Texas. Interment will follow at the San Fernando Cemetery II. Due to the pandemic, we are requesting our family and friends to observe social distancing at the funeral home and the cemetery.
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions--only 50 guests will be allowed in the funeral home chapel.
Facial Coverings are required to be worn at all times.
