

Col. Janet A. Ferguson, US Army, Retired age 94, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 in San Antonio. Janet completed a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics from Drexel University, PA in 1943 and a Master's degree in Institutional Management from Kansas State University in 1950. Her internship was completed at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD and the US Army Hospital at Ft. Lewis, WA. She was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. with the US Army Medical Department and served in the US, Philippines, Japan and Germany as a dietitian in Army Hospital Food Service Divisions. Janet's career highlight was serving as a member of the Interdepartmental Committee for Nutrition National Defense, National Institute of Health Team to conduct nutrition surveys of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in 1962. She received the Distinguished Citizen Award for Public Service in 1986 by the Texas Governor, Mark White. She was a member of the Daughters of the King and Church of the Resurrection Episcopal Church. She retired to San Antonio where she was an active community volunteer. She showed Dandie Dinmont Terriers and enjoyed playing golf and bridge. Janet is survived by her 2nd cousins, Nancy Clare Brubaker and husband, Wil and Karen Scales and husband, Robert.
