Art attended St. Cecilia’s Catholic Elementary and Central Catholic High School in San Antonio, Texas. He went on to attend Loyola University in New Orleans where upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Army as a Medical Service Corp Officer. After 20 years and multiple deployments stateside and overseas, he retired in Sep 1997. Art continued his calling in public service with employment in San Antonio’s Department of Community Initiatives. He then went on to be Director of a non-profit organization, Vision for Children. Art then took a position as Dean of Students at St. Gerard High School where he ignited his passion for teaching. All these positions prepared him for his next calling as counselor and pastoral minister for Cornerstone Church. More recently, that position expanded to include teaching at Cornerstone Christian Schools.
Art Gonzales wore many “hats” in his life. Husband, Father, Friend, Soldier, Pastor, Counselor, and Teacher. He was Mr. G to some, Pastor Art or Pastor G to others. He even did a few years as “The Voice of the Royals” for St. Gerard football. To those of us who knew him well, his humor, his love of music, his love of people and his belief in giving first, second and third chances to get one’s life on the right path will always be in our hearts. He leaves a legacy of love.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Gloria Gonzales, and sister, Cynthia Gonzales. Arthur is survived by his wife, Cleo “CJ” Gonzales; sons, Anthony Gonzales and wife, Kali; Daniel Gonzales and fiancée, Kimberly Hopkins; and Joseph Gonzales; his daughter, Teresa “Alex” Gonzales; grandchild, Kinedy Phillips; uncles, Tom Quintero and Joe Quintero; aunt, Ofelia Olsen as well as numerous cousins.
