Her early years as a student were in Alamo Heights Independent School District where both of her parents taught throughout their lives.
She was accomplished, like all her family, as a musician playing both clarinet and piano.
She finished formal education at the Univ. of Texas attending on a music scholarship. She played in the Longhorn Band and the Univ. Symphonic Orchestra and received many honors. Among those were The Goodfellow Award for outstanding service to the community and the university, Homecoming Queen, Bluebonnet Belle, and was a nominee for the Ten Most Beautiful Women.
After finishing formal education, she embarked on her dream of an acting career and moved to Los Angeles. To help finance this endeavor, she took a job with California Casuality Insurance as an auditor trainee, rising to the top ranks of that company. To further the acting career, she chose to become an independent auditor where her working hours were flexible.
She landed parts on all the daily soap operas and eventually a recurring role on General Hospital for four years. In addition she had principal roles in informational films, television commercials, a TV movie called 'Just Kids', and the TV hit 'Three's Company'. She also taught acting classes at a Hollywood Studio for three years.
After much soul searching, she decided to return to San Antonio where her family still lived. She then founded Southwest Audits, Inc., an insurance auditing business which two years later was making a profit and was debt free. The company eventually extended into 28 states.
Her independent spirit, lifelong principles of hard work and determination had brought many rewards, and she became less involved in her company's active management.
Her magnetic personality along with her sweet and loving ways, earned her many friends from all walks of life.
She devoted herself to the loving care of animals, owning a sizeable menagerie throughout her life as well as feeding the wildlife on her ranchette near Helotes, Texas.
She is survived by her brother, Thomas T. Fielder; aunt, Shirley Calcote Suggs; cousin, Andrea Morrison; nephews, Jake and Travis Fielder; niece, Allison Fielder; and fiancé, Jim McKee.
The family wishes to extend their special thanks to the nursing staff in the MICU at SW Methodist Hospital for their highly skilled and loving dedication in Artie's behalf and to her principle physician Dr. David Schenk.
