With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Arturo "Art" R. Guajardo, who was called home to the Lord on February 17, 2025, at the age of 80. He was born on February 13, 1945, in San Antonio, Texas, to Manuela R. Yanez and Jose (Joe) C. Guajardo.
A graduate of Brackenridge High School in 1965, Art’s life was defined by his deep faith, his devotion to service, and his love for his community. A proud member of the United States Air Force Reserves, Art served as a Senior Airman, dedicating himself to his country with honor. For over 45 years, he worked as a bus driver for VIA, serving the public with patience, kindness, and care.
Art’s faith was at the center of everything he did. He was a lifelong member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was an active participant in the Family Life Ministry. His commitment to the spiritual growth of others was also evident in his support of the A.C.T.S. retreats. As a Knight of Columbus, Art faithfully followed the teachings of the Church and lived out his vocation through service to others.
Throughout his life, Art was dedicated to his union, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 694, where he worked tirelessly for over 45 years. He also found joy in his involvement with the Southside Lions Senior Center, where he enjoyed fellowship and building relationships.
Art was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who exemplified the love of Christ in all that he did. His life was a living testament to the teachings of Jesus, and his legacy will continue through all those he touched with his compassion, generosity, and faith.
Art is now resting in the loving arms of our Savior, reunited with his beloved wife; Irene Guajardo, his parents, Manuela and Jose Guajardo, his siblings; Virginia, Sabino, Jimmy, and Emma. We take comfort in knowing that he has heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Art's memory will forever live in the hearts of his daughters; Cynthia Ann, Denise Renee, and Lisa Marie, his sons; Arthur Michael, and John Gabriel,as well as his sister; Olga, and his 11 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.
