She devoted her life to the care and nurturing of her family. Whether it was cooking her many Mexican food delicacies for family and friends; babysitting for grandchildren; working on her daughter's campaigns; caring for a sick family member; opening her home to neighborhood children during the summer; or teaching crocheting and quilting to senior citizens, she was someone who could always be counted on to lend a helping hand.
With her strength and encouragement, she influenced each one of her five children and seven grandchildren in myriad ways. Most recently she was enjoying her seven great-grandchildren. Her wisdom and sense of humor guided her through life's trials and tribulations. Mom led by example. Her positivity and kindness was infectious and together with her spirituality she set a standard for us all.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Hope Zimmerle and Irene Zapata; brothers Marshall, Gilbert and Robert Zapata; and son George Hernandez.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Joe; daughters Christine Hernandez and Eleanor H. Ramirez; sons Marshall Hernandez (Elizabeth Martinez) and Dan Hernandez (Eloy Ortiz); grandsons Eloy Joseph Ramirez (Amber) and Daniel Richard Ramirez (Kelly Lopez), Dominic Lee Hernandez (Miranda Hanna) and Jonathan Mikael Hernandez; granddaughters Alyson Marie Hernandez, Valerie Jean Gutierrez (Zach) and Clarisa Sanchez (Alfred); great-grandsons Alfred, Vincent and Marcial Sanchez; great-granddaughters Samantha Sheree and Payton Presley Ramirez, Isla Jean Gutierrez and Arianna Hernandez.
