

Mrs. Aurora Solis Martinez, who was a beloved wife, adored mother, loving grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, passed peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on Friday, September 27, 2024, in Austin, Texas. She conquered 102 years. Mrs. Martinez was born August 22, 1922, in Robstown, Texas.
In the early 1930s her family moved to Mexico and eventually took residence in Nuevo Laredo. In her teens she worked at a local panaderia and eventually met Pioquinto C. Martinez. He was in the US Army and eventually deployed to Europe for the Allied invasion of France. At the end of the war, he returned and proposed marriage. They were married on August 18, 1946, in the San Agustin Catholic Cathedral, in Laredo, Texas. They honeymooned in Monterrey, Mexico and returned to Laredo to start a family. Eventually they moved to San Antonio, Texas and lived in the same home for over 50 years.
Mrs. Martinez was preceded in death by her husband Pioquinto, her mother, Juana Solis and father, Marcelo Solis and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sisters Teresa Mata and Pilar Alfaro and her 8 children: Grace B. Garcia and Tom, Pioquinto Martinez, Jr., Maricela Garcia, George X. Martinez and Rebecca, Orlando Martinez, Dora Diana Marquart, Ricardo Martinez, and Homer Martinez; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Aurora always brought love when she entered a room and left love when she left this Earth. She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed.
The family will receive guests from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
