

Barbara Braden Hillman Kavanagh died on Monday, July 11, 2022, in San Antonio. She was born on March 7, 1933, in San Antonio to Arthur and Helen Braden. After raising her children, she went back to school to become a Registered Nurse. She enjoyed travel, sailing, reading and crosswords. Barbara lived in Rockport for the last 20 healthy years of her life in the family home and enjoyed the beach, throwing the ball for her dog Hank and her friends there greatly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John J. Kavanagh; daughter, Diane Hillman Schwartz; and her brother, Arthur Louis Braden Jr. She is survived by: children Maureen G. Hillman of San Antonio, Braden "Brad" M. Hillman of Houston, Elaine (George) Muellich of San Antonio, and Amy J. Hillman of Scottsdale, AZ.; son-in-law, J.S. (Rita) Schwartz; grandchildren, Christopher Smith (Nicole Bean), Kathryn Ann (Yury) Fernandez-Espinosa, James (Melissa) Schwartz and Stephen (Sherri) Schwartz; sister-in-law, Meredith Braden; nieces Vaughan "Hope" Braden and Erin (Billy) Childress; nephew Tim (Kathy) Braden; step son-in-law James (Febes) Kavanagh: step-grandchildren Sean (Chrystin) Kavanagh, Jessica Kavanagh and Erik (Kaitlyn) Kavanagh; great niece, Caitlin (Colin) Messinger Campbell; great nephews, Cody (Alexandra) Clark, Chad Braden and Jamie Messinger; three great-grandchildren, Leonardo Fernandez-Espinosa, Antonio Fernandez-Espinosa, McKenna Schwartz and one on the way. Special thanks to the Franklin Park Alamo Heights Memory Care Brazos Unit Caregivers for their loving care of Barbara.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Avenue 78212. Interment will be immediately following visitation at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in San Antonio.
Pallbearers will be George Muellich, Christopher L. Smith, Katie Fernandez-Espinosa, Billy Childress, Erik Kavanagh, Jamie Messinger and Colin Campbell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tim Braden, James Schwartz, Leonardo Fernandez-Espinosa, and Antonio Fernandez-Espinosa.
