Barbara fought with courage, dignity and optimism until she passed away surrounded by family and friends at North East Baptist Hospital, where she worked the past 15 years in medical records. She made many friends throughout the hospital and drew praise from co-workers and supervisors for her work ethic, professionalism and positive attitude, all of which she continued to exhibit while receiving treatment.
Her friends loved her ready smile, gentle manner and the encouragement she offered those facing tough times. But she was most devoted to her family, especially her son, Kristopher, who brought her great joy. Even while sick, her commitment to her family never wavered, and other patients and their doctors drew inspiration from her refusal to allow the disease to conquer her spirit.
Barbara was born in Hot Springs, AR, on October 28, 1958. She was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament Parish School and Lee High School, Class of 1977. She earned a degree in elementary education from UTSA in 1982 and a degree in medical records from St. Philip's College in 1987.
