
Barbara Marya Johnson Morris passed away peacefully at her residence in Houston, Texas on January 30, 2008. She was born in San Antonio, July 30, 1913, the daughter of Sarah Veach Johnson and Henry Clay Johnson. Her parents, her siblings Henry Clay Johnson, Patricia Johnson Speier, James C. Johnson, and her beloved husband Paul Edward Morris preceded Barbara in death. Barbara Morris is survived by her five children Sarah Hill and husband C.E. 'Neil' Hill of Houston; Paul E. Morris, Jr. and wife Janet, of Houston; Melanie Morris of Houston, Mary Morris of Anaheim, California, Barbara Murphy and husband Louis M. Murphy, Jr. of New Orleans, Louisiana. Mrs. Morris is also survived by her grandchildren Gary Morris and wife Karin; Barbara Hill Faircloth and husband Aaron Faircloth, Sarah Hill Koumoulos and her husband Steven Koumoulos, Louis M. Murphy, III, and Colleen Morris Murphy. In addition, Mrs. Morris is survived by her great-grandchildren Cameron Morris, Gary Morris Jr., Jackson Paul Morris, and Georgia Lynn Koumoulos. Mrs. Morris was reared in San Antonio where she attended Incarnate Word schools and graduated from Our Lady of the Lake College, with a degree in sociology. She married Paul Edward Morris, also of San Antonio, in 1941 and began a 25 year adventure as a United States Army officer's wife. She traveled extensively with her husband and five children. Mrs. Morris was active in many volunteer pursuits including working as a hospital volunteer with the 'Gray Ladies', an active representative with the Army Community Service program, and Birthright International. She maintained an active involvement with her children's schools, in addition to acting as 'head of the household' during Colonel Morris' tours of duty out of the country. Colonel and Mrs. Morris, throughout their 59 years of marriage were avid bridge players and belonged to several bridge organizations. She was also a member and supporter of the Tuesday Musical Society, the Gibbons Club, the Bright Shawl, and Ladies of the Ribbon, an organization for military wives. Following Colonel Morris' retirement, they enjoyed annual trips to New Orleans and Hawaii. They also traveled to Great Britain, Scotland, and Ireland.
