She is survived by her loving husband Bill Struzenski, daughter Karen and son-in-law Todd Koym, as well as her two granddaughters Kendall and Kate Koym, all of Canyon Lake, TX. In addition, Barbara is survived by her brother Frank and sister-in law Nancy DiMella, of Newton, MA as well as her sister Betty Whitney, of Chestnut Hill, MA. Barbara also leaves her sister-in-law Carol Ann and her husband Ed Smoragiewicz of Bonita Springs, Fl and her brother-in-law Robert and his wife Sue Struzenski of Terryville, CT.
Barbara and Bill moved to Texas nearly 16 years ago to be closer to their daughter and family, having lived most of their lives in Newington, CT. Born in Hartford, CT May 11, 1939, raised in Wethersfield, CT, Barbara was the first child of her parents Chic and Angelo who predeceased her.
Barbara worked for many years and retired from the Connecticut State’s Attorney’s Office, where she was secretary and assistant to the late Chief State’s Attorney John (Jack) Bailey. It was there she established lifetime friends and colleagues with whom she remained close her entire life. Her greatest joy, besides watching the growth and achievements of Kendall and Kate, was listening to her favorite jazz artists while entertaining family and friends at the family summer home in Clinton, CT. With the exception of her grandmother and Aunt Mary, nobody could cook like Barbara, their proud protege!
Funeral services were private. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
