It is with much sadness that we, the immediate family, are notifying family and friends of the passing of Barbara Ann (Gentz) Thompson. Barbara passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at 2:20 PM at Atria Cypresswood Assisted Living Facility. Barbara was 81 years old.
It is with profound joy that we celebrate her life. She would have turned 82 on Sunday, February 9, 2014. Barbara was born in Glendale, CA to Levert Ivan Weaver and Opal Irene (Taylor) Weaver. She had an older brother: Harold (Bubba) Weaver and a sister: Carolyn (Sis) Scott. Barbara met her first love, William George Gentz, Jr. in Houston while her Dad was the minister at the Oakwood Nazarene church in Houston. They dated off and on for several years. After her family moved back to California, William (Bill) moved there to attend college and be close to Barbara. They married back in Houston, soon after.
After raising two children and living a normal life, Bill was killed in an automobile accident in 1983. For a while Barbara focused all her love and attention on her grandchildren, especially Jennifer, the first grandchild. In 1988 she received a telephone call from a gentleman named Burt Thompson, a voice from the past. After a little romancing, they were married March 25th, 1989. Now with five children, thirteen grandchildren, and ever-expanding great grandchildren, they traveled often to be with all.
Barbara liked to travel, especially RVing with her husband Burt before he passed. She especially loved to travel and see her family and relatives, including her brother and his wife, her kids and grand kids and great grand kids. Barbara just loved to spend time visiting with her family and friends sharing memories and making new ones. Barbara lived simply and spoke of a simple burial. She suffered from Parkinson's Disease with Senile Dementia. Her passing was pretty much anticipated, but came quickly at the end and without any pain.
Barbara was predeceased by her husbands, Bill and Burt; her parents Levert and Opal, her in-laws William and Rosie, and daughter Cynthia.
Her survivors include the following immediate family members: Children: son David Gentz, and his wife Deborah; daughter Burt Leta (Beta) Noel, and her husband Mike; son Tom Thompson and his wife Helaine; son Tim Thompson, and his wife Donna; and Son-In-Law David Pressly; Grandsons: Jeffery Pressly, and his wife Sara; Gregory Pressly; Jared Segrest; Donald Rovira, and his wife Marie; Chad Noel, and his wife Sydney; Kevin Noel, and his wife Stephanie; Colin Thompson; Lucas Thompson; and Chad Crenshaw; Granddaughters: Jennifer (Pressly) Sobotik and her husband Bradley; Heather Segrest; Saundra (Thompson) Chapman and her husband Austin; and Ashley Crenshaw; Great-grandchildren: Brayden Sobotik, AJ Sabani, Christian Rovira, Chase and Everly Noel, Alyssa and Jake Noel, Daegan Chapman, and more soon to come; Brother Harold (Bubba) Weaver, and his wife Veda; sister Carolyn (Weaver) Scott and her husband Robert; sister-in-law Marge (Gentz) Mountford and her husband Richard; and generations of nieces and nephews.
