

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Barbara Ruth Villarreal (née Watkins), aged 74, on March 8, 2025, in Houston, TX. Barbara was born on August 24, 1950, in Houston, TX, and lived a life marked by love, laughter, and kindness.
Early Life and Education
Barbara was raised in Austin and Houston alongside her parents and three siblings. She graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1968, then pursued her passion for helping others by becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Barbara worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, where she touched many lives with her caring nature and dedication to her patients.
Family and Personal Life
On November 21, 1971, Barbara married the love of her life, Joe Nick Villarreal. Together, they raised three children: Brittney, Eric, and Celeste. As a devoted wife and mother, Barbara treasured every moment spent with her family, guiding them with love, support, and strong biblical values.
Barbara had a deep passion for studying the Bible and playing the piano. She shared these loves by teaching piano to children and volunteering with her church for many years. She loved to sing, and danced every day like no one was watching. In her free time, Barbara loved reading and enriching her spirit, always striving to give back to the world around her. Her kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Legacy and Family
Barbara’s legacy will be forever remembered through the love, joy, and laughter she brought to everyone in her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe Nick Villarreal; her mother, Catherine Watkins; her father, Billy Joe Watkins; her brother, Bill C. Watkins; her sister, Mary Perez; as well as several extended family members, including her father-in-law, Jose L. Villarreal; mother-in-law, Fannie Villarreal; brother-in-law, Joe Villarreal Jr.; brother-in-law, Emilio Villarreal; and sister-in-law, Sandy Villarreal.
In a heart-wrenching turn of events, just a week after Barbara’s passing, her beloved sister-in-law, Cynthia Villarreal, was also called home to the Lord. The family finds solace in knowing that Barbara and Cynthia are now reunited in peace, watching over their loved ones from above.
Barbara is survived by her children, Brittney Pequeno (spouse, Gilberto), Eric Villarreal (spouse, Jayde), and Celeste Villarreal (spouse, Martha); and her beloved grandchildren, Isaiah De La
Cruz, Noah De La Cruz, Gilberto Pequeno III, Eva Villarreal, Jaiden Villarreal, and Eriana Villarreal, brother, Francis Watkins (spouse, Nicole Watkins); as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service
A memorial service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held on April 12, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78218. Family and friends are invited to come together to share memories and honor Barbara’s legacy.
