Bernard was the oldest of ten children born to Bernard and Rosalie Hansen. He was raised in San Antonio and attended grade school at St. Henry’s and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.
Considering himself a “career student”, Bernard’s inquisitive mind led to his enrollment in a variety of college courses covering a wide range of subjects. At the same time, he practiced real estate while pursuing various entrepreneurial endeavors. This would lead into businesses with his brother Greg which included renovating homes and operating a small retail paint and wallpaper store. In 1975, they opened Hansen Screen Company and successfully managed and grew the business for many years. Greg and Bernard eventually retired and passed the torch over to Bernard’s son, Clint.
Bernard loved all sports but especially enjoyed baseball, playing golf with friends and family and religiously following the San Antonio Spurs. This included trips to the games and many lively discussions over coaching and playing decisions. His other passion was vegetable gardening, specializing in tomatoes and fig trees.
Bernard’s friendliness, wisdom, sharp sense of humor and generosity will always be remembered and his family will miss him dearly.
Bernard is preceded in death by his wife Terri; parents Rosalie and Bernard Hansen Jr; siblings Barbara, Elizabeth (Dolly), Gerard (Bitty) and wife Cheryl. He is survived by his son Clinton Hansen and wife Vicky as well as siblings Gregory Hansen (Pat), Judith Moore (Doug), Jerome Hansen (Lisa), Debra Hansen (Alex), Jon Hansen (Eva) and Mark Hansen (Karen).
