Bernard was a life long San Antonio native, as well as a 32nd degree Mason.
At an early age, he joined his father at Sugarman Bros. and Son Department Store, and later he founded Sugarman's Uniform Company, where he outfitted many of the San Antonio Police Force, the U.S. Military and several local private schools.
Well-known and respected by all of his customers, he remained a favorite of the uniform community long after he retired from the uniform business.
An avid golfer, Bernard was proud to have made a "hole-in-one" at age 84.
In later years, his daily gin rummy game at Oak Hills Country Club became a daily highlight.
Bernard was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Miriam Friedman Sugarman.
He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends, as well as his survivors: daughter, Sandra and her husband, Stanley Rosenberg; son, Kenny and wife, Carol Sugarman; grandchildren, Susan and Lee Sandoloski; Carol and Steve Baskin; Jill and Bobby Rosenthal; Michael Sugarman; Amy Sugarman and husband, Dan Weingart; and Andrew Sugarman. Bernard was an adoring great-grandfather to Allison and Sean Sandoloski, Sam and Chelsea Baskin; Justin, Blake, and Aubrey Rosenthal and Ethan, Clair and Lindsay Weingart.
