Bertha M. Von Buettner, age 94, passed away on January 1, 2026, in San Antonio. Bertha was born on January 1, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois to parents Bernard Van Gaubergen and Alida Van Gastel. She enjoyed watching sports, murder mysteries, and old movies. She also loved going out to dinner with her family and having a glass of wine. Bertha lived in several countries during her marriage. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Frederick Von Buettner, Jr.; son, Steven Von Buettner, and step granddaughter, Sarah. Bertha is survived by three children Kenneth Von Buettner and his wife Chris of Casper, Wyoming; Lynn Von Buettner of San Antonio; Kurt Von Buettner and his wife Kathy of San Antonio; and daughter-in law, Karen Von Buettner of Schertz. She is survived by five grandchildren, Aric, Christian, Karl, Thomas, Travis; and great granddaughter, Willow.
The family will receive friends and family from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21 at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 North Loop 1604 East.
A Graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road.
