

A talented floral designer whose artistic touch brought beauty and joy to countless lives, Betty discovered her passion for floral design, and it blossomed into a career marked by creativity and devotion. She was known for her exceptional talent in creating stunning floral arrangements that captured the essence of every occasion.
Throughout her career, Betty worked in the floral department at HEB in Leon Springs and later joined the team of Hometown Crafts in Kerrville, where she was a beloved member of the community. Her beautiful spirit will live on through the memories shared by those who were fortunate enough to have known her. She will be deeply missed, and her legacy of beauty and love will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who were touched by her artistry and kindness.
Betty was a lifelong member of Concordia Lutheran Church in San Antonio. Her unwavering commitment to attending Sunday services was a testament to her deep faith and belief in the power of worship. Even when Betty reached the point she was unable to commute to San Antonio from Comfort, she attended Concordia’s services through livestream.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, David M. Girdwood; parents, Chester and Lucille Durst; sister, Cookie Opanasenko; and daughter-in-law, Bobbie Girdwood.
She is survived by her loving children, Debbie Meadows (Lee Roy), Greg Girdwood , Penny Hernandez (Ray); grandchildren, Cody Hernandez (Kristyn), David Girdwood (Brenda), Brandon Meadows (Rachel), and Blake Girdwood; great-grandchildren, Aiden Hernandez, Baily Girdwood, Brandon Meadows II and Brooke Meadows; sisters, Mary Jean Fisher (L.B.) and Kathy Levis (Ray, deceased); brothers, Robert Dupree (Jane), George Girdwood (Gayle), and Richard Girdwood (Peggy); brother-in-law, Walt Opanasenko; and many other loving relatives and countless friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
A viewing will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023, at 9:30AM with a funeral service to follow at 10:00AM at Concordia Lutheran Church, 16801 Huebner Rd, San Antonio 78258. Senior Pastor Bill Tucker will officiate the services. Interment will follow at Mission Burial Park North.
