

Betty Louise (Acker) Halstead of San Antonio, Texas passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017. Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister who loved the Lord. Betty was born in Longview, Texas, and graduated from Longview Senior High School in 1956. She graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Education from Stephen F. Austin State College in 1960.
Betty began her teaching career traveling the world as a teacher for the Department of Defense school system and was assigned to military bases around the world including France, Okinawa, and Hawaii. It was in Hawaii that she met her future husband Woodrow Halstead. The two were married in 1967 and shared 16 years together before Woody's untimely passing. Betty dearly loved her family and took great pride in her children and grandchildren's accomplishments as well as those of her nieces and nephews.
Betty was an active member of the Northwest Hills Christian Church and loved to work with children in the nursery.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Woody, her parents Jack and Freda Acker, and her sister Barbara.
She is survived by her sister Jane Dunton; her son, Woodrow J. Halstead, III (Amy); and her daughter Gayle Calderon (Curtis); her grandchildren Annaliese Halstead, Wesley Halstead, and Spencer Halstead, Persephone Amato, Atticus Calderon, and Athena Calderon; and her beloved nieces and nephews Frederick H. "Trace" Weston, III (Danielle), Shannon Westveer (Scott), Laura Weston, Giles Debenport (Kristen), Joyce Debenport (Andres); and her grandnieces and grandnephews.
Services and a celebration of Betty's life will be held at the Porter Loring North Funeral Chapel on Friday, December 29th at 9:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Betty's name be made to the Alzheimer's Association of America.
