Growing up in East Texas she graduated from Lufkin High School and the University of Texas at Austin, where she met her husband of nearly 50 years John Frederick LeFlore. They made their home in San Antonio. Betty enjoyed all the wonderful gifts of her life: faith, family, friends, food and cherished being a loving grandmother (BeBe) to her Kate Smelko and Lane Tatum. She celebrated Valentine's with a group of friends and enjoyed a family dinner with 19 relatives this past Friday. Betty was looking forward to the upcoming Jazz Mass and a Spring Break trip to Big Bend. God had another journey in store for her.
She is survived by her husband John; daughters Jeanne LeFlore Tatum and husband Kelvin, and Katherine LeFlore Smelko and husband John; grandchildren Kate Smelko and Lane Tatum; brother Thomas William Peavy, Jr. and wife Margaret (Peggy); sister-in-law, Kathryn Barragan LeFlore; cousins Mary Stripling Duncan and husband Tom, William (Bill) Stripling and wife Mary, Virginia Leah Harrington Lacey and husband Bill; nieces and nephews Elaine Peavy Zediker, Kalee Peavy Sewell, Byron LeFlore, Jr., Elizabeth LeFlore Langmore, James (Jimmy) LeFlore, Campbell LeFlore, Bevin Boxwell and Steven Boxwell; and numerous grand-nephews and nieces.
Betty dearly loved her fellow "Crows" (not to be confused with "Old Crows") lunch group… Jean, Kay, Barbara, Judy and Cecile. She saw her beloved little brother Tommy, her childhood friend and namesake for her daughter, Jean McFaddin, and close friend Delaine Weil in the last few weeks of her life. God was ordering her steps as only He can do.
She will be remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor, being an amazing and loyal, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and most importantly for the love she made those around her feel when she was with them.
Betty specifically requested Rev. Patrick Gahan to officiate her Burial Services at Christ Episcopal. She sincerely appreciated the loving pastoral care of Carol Miller and Sally Watson.
