Betty L. McDonald, born on August 25, 1938, in Luling, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. Betty was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, known for her quiet strength, unwavering love, and warm spirit.
Betty grew up in Harwood, Texas, alongside her parents, Perry Bouldin and Ina Barfield, and her siblings, Perry Bouldin, Jr. and Barbara Bouldin. Her childhood was filled with the simple joys of rural life, including the memorable experience of riding her horse to school.
Betty began working at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company while still in high school, a career she dedicated herself to for 37 years. Her journey took her to California, following her best friend. However, love brought her back to Texas when Tinker, her future husband, traveled to California to bring her home and marry her.
Together, Betty and Tinker built a beautiful life, raising three wonderful children: Pam, Kim, and Brad. Betty was a devoted mother who enjoyed making dance costumes and matching dresses for her daughters and creating a nurturing home environment. Her talents extended to the kitchen, where she was famous for her smoked, juicy Thanksgiving turkey and her love for pumpkin empanadas from Mi Tierra.
A dedicated member of Highland Park Lutheran Church, Betty's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She seldom missed a service and was a steadfast presence in the church community. Betty found joy in bowling, sewing, and gardening, and in her later years, she became proficient at Rummikub, often calling her daughter Pam to humorously complain about opponents who took too long to make their moves.
Betty was known for her fairness and generosity, ensuring all her children and grandchildren received equal gifts. She was content with what she had, never wanting for more, and made many friends with her kindness and gentle spirit.
Before moving to assisted living three years ago, Betty was diagnosed with COPD and mild dementia. Despite these challenges, she continued to make friends and enjoy her favorite activities.
Betty is survived by her children Pam, Kim, and Brad; her grandchildren Mitchell, Dillon, Nick, Paul, and April; and her great-grandchildren Kylie, Kaley, Lily, and Adelyn. Her family will hold her memory close to their hearts.
The family will receive guests from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave., San Antonio.
A celebration of Betty's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2024, at Highland Park Lutheran Church, 705 Hammond Avenue, San Antonio. Reception to follow.
Interment will follow in Harwood Cemetery in Harwood, Texas at 2:00 p.m.
Betty L. McDonald will be remembered for her unwavering love, her gentle spirit, and the rich legacy she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal peace.
