

Joy was born to Ed and Clydie Mae Blanchard McLendon in Upshur County, Texas. She grew up in the Mings Chapel Community of Upshur County, TX, and attended school at Mings Chapel School and at East Mountain School in Upshur County, TX. She was 96 years and would have turned 97 years old on December 14, 2024.
Betty Joy was born a twin to Bonnie Jean McLendon and they were the first twins born in the Mings Chapel Community. Joy was one of 13 children born to her parents, and she outlived all of her siblings. After graduation, Joy secured a job with Southwestern Bell Telephone company in Dallas, Texas. She eventually moved to San Antonio, Texas when the telephone company moved their corporate offices there. Joy had a successful career with the telephone company and retired after her marriage to Col. James D. Morgan.
Joy is survived by numerous nieces and nephews: Michael Dean Craig, Jay Paul Lindsey, Andrew Lindsey, JoAnn McLendon North, Donald Wayne McLendon, Annette McLendon Smith, Linda Huffhines Toon, Scott Huffhines, Donald Huffhines, Joe Huffhines, Mark Huffhines, Charles Taylor Lindsey, Phillip Lindsey, Marty McLendon, Rita Joy Woods Atkins, Bryan Woods, Bonnie Biddlecome, Steve McLendon, Ricky McLendon, Marsha McLendon Lombardo, Lynnette McLendon Wright, David Mark McLendon, Paula McLendon Richey, Greg McLendon, Lisa Southard Hopkins; her much loved Sister-in-law, Peggy McLendon; and a host of many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Clydie Mae McLendon, her husband, Col. James D. Morgan, daughter, Karla Jean Beck, step-daughter, Laurie Morgan, Sisters: Blanche Craig, Nadine Lindsey, Doris Huffhines, Oletha Lindsey, Bonnie Jean Martinez and Glenda Southard, Brothers: Cleburne McLendon, Don McLendon, DeRoyce McLendon, E.C. McLendon, Sonny McLendon and Jerry Lynn McLendon, Nieces and Nephews: Bobby Joe McLendon, Frida Craig, Judy Ann Lindsey, Jan Lindsey Bejte, Ed Lindsey, Ronald Gene McLendon, Vicki Dee McLendon, Herbert O. Woods III, and Darla Southard Crose.
Visitation will be December 13, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Castle Hill Christian Church, 6209 West Ave., San Antonio, Texas. 78213, with Pastor Ronnie Morgan and Pastor Ed Skidmore officiating.
