Betty McCracken Sheriff, 84, of San Antonio, TX died January 24, 2006, at Homewood Residence at Castle Hills. Born October 1, 1921 in Avis, PA, she was the daughter of Enloe L. and Imo R. McCracken. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Robert B. Sheriff, Sr. They lived in Baltimore, MD, for almost 50 years. In 1989, they moved to Kent Island on the Chesapeake Bay where they spent thirteen wonderful years. In 2002, they moved to San Antonio, TX.
Betty worked for 30 years in the Social Security Administration in Baltimore until her retirement in 1978. She served as the Social Security liaison with the White House and Congress during the 1960's and 1970's.
Betty loved travel with trips to the Middle East, Israel, Egypt, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, and the Caribbean.
She was active in her churches at Middle River, Hazelwood and Perry Hall in Baltimore and Wye Mill Bible Church on Kent Island. She had her sons in church every Sunday. Betty wrote countless letters of encouragement to her friends, her family, her children, and grandchildren. She was everyone's encourager, tireless in her devotion to her family. Mother leaves us with a legacy of faith, hope and love and a resolve to be an encouragement to others as she was to us.
Besides her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Kenneth McCracken. Betty is survived by her three sons: William E. Sheriff and wife, Selma, of Baton Rouge, LA; Robert B. Sheriff, Jr. and wife, Sharon, of San Antonio; and Richard L.
