Beverly Ann Corby, age 86, passed away peacefully among family and friends at home, on August 5, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born in Scranton, PA to Frank and Lillian Skibber. Beverly was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Beverly grew up in Scranton. She was a cheerleader, local model and loved to roller skate. It was love at first sight when John and Beverly met at the age of 15. Their love story lasted 70 years. They married the day John graduated from West Point in 1959. She was so proud to be a West Pointer wife. They traveled the globe, including assignments in Saigon (2 years) and London (5 years) before they settled in San Antonio. They had four children, all of whom were born in different states. The most important and precious thing to Bev was her family. “Family first” was her favorite motto. As a stay-at-home mom she relished every moment with her children. Years later as her kids grew older, she got her real estate license and became one of the top agents in San Antonio. With her infectious and charming personality her clients appreciated her honesty. Beverly was a kind and gentle soul and never wanted to hurt anybody’s feelings. One of her favorite things was laughter. She had a wonderful sense of humor and her high-pitched laugh will live on. She was an avid reader who loved reading to her grandbabies. She kept in shape and exercised most of her life. She loved fun and never wanted to miss out on anything. She taught her family American tradition and cooked huge meals for all the big holidays. She was a mother bear and worked hard at keeping her children close by. Today, her children all reside within an hour’s proximity. Just as she loved her family fiercely, they loved her fiercely in return. Surely as she sits in heaven watching over her family, she’s happy and content with the love and values she instilled in them and the knowledge that they will always keep her close in their hearts unequivocally appreciating everything she gave. Beverly was a beautiful woman inside and out and always will be her family’s everlasting anchor.
Beverly is survived by her husband, John; daughters, Karen Corby, Colleen Freeman-Corby and husband Alan; son, Jeffrey Corby and wife Vernene; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, John Francis Corby, Jr. (age 17); parents, Frank and Lillian Skibber; and brother, Robert F. Skibber, Sr.
