August 21, 1937 – January 14, 2026
Billy Van McClellan (Bill) passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, at his home in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 88. Born on August 21, 1937, in Fairfield, Texas, to Van and Eloise Granberry McClellan, Billy spent his childhood in Bryan, Texas, and graduated from SFA High School in 1955.
Bill began his college journey at Texas A&M University and soon determined that the ROTC life was not for him, nor was the lack of coeds in Aggieland. He found his fit at North Texas State University, where he earned his degree. His academic path set the stage for a long and successful career as an executive in the Texas banking industry—a career marked by leadership, integrity, and dedication.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alida Selby McClellan; his parents; and his brothers, Jimmy McClellan and Bobby McClellan. He is survived by his three children: Tammy McClellan of Fort Worth; John McClellan (wife Michelle) of Odessa; and Bryan McClellan of Austin. He is also survived by two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Additionally, Bill is survived by his sister and best friend, Judy Perry (husband Rock) of San Antonio; his brother Johnny McClellan (wife Kathy) of The Woodlands; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Outside of his professional and family life, Bill was an avid golfer, recording an impressive four holes-in-one, and he went by the nickname “Bronco Billy” on the golf course. He was also a passionate bird watcher who identified more than 350 birds in North America. His enthusiasm for life, quick wit, and dry sense of humor touched everyone who knew him.
A celebration of life for Bill will be held in both San Antonio and Denton, Texas, with dates to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bill’s memory to the American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society.
