Bobbie Lucille Veitch Davis was born on Nov. 25,1920, in Hawkins, TX, and passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 29,2025, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, in the presence of loving friends, beautiful music, and prayer. We come here today to celebrate a long life - 104 years - well-lived and fruitful.
Miss Bobbie, as she was called, grew up a country girl on her grandparents’ farm in Hawkins alongside her grandparents, her mother, her aunt, her sister and cousin. Her early childhood years were spent attending a small part-time school in the Stagner community and being home-schooled by a renowned teacher provided by her grandfather. She graduated from high school in Quitman after attending business school at night and then started her career with the Federal government in the Dept. Of Agriculture. Transferred to Athens after two years, she met and married the love of her life, Harry Clinton Davis on Nov. 23,1949. They lived in Athens until 1950, when Harry was called back to active Army duty because of the Korean Conflict. Harry served three years as a Ward Commander at Madigan Army Hospital near Tacoma, and Bobbie worked in the officer’s personnel office. Following Harry’s release from duty, they remained in Tacoma for another year, then moved to Athens for Harry to resume his work in the funeral business. They moved to San Antonio in 1953, and Harry went to work for Riebe-Saunders Funeral Home as a mortician. Bobbie continued her work for the Federal government in the Office of Personnel Management.
Bobbie spent her entire adult life in San Antonio, and she loved this city and its people. She began attending the Little Church of La Villita when Rev. Paul Soupist and Rev. Edmonds were ministers. She worked as a volunteer/official with the Starving Artist Art Show sponsored by the church and continued to do so until about four years ago, when health issues made it impossible. Her life interests included fine art, sewing, and traveling after Harry’s death and her retirement. She loved spending time at her lake house on Lake Lydia in Quitman where she could visit with family and friends. She was a 50-year member of the Order of La Beauceant, as well as a dedicated member of Eastern Star, and Daughters of the Nile. She had great fun in The Red Hat Society and once got her picture on the cover of San Antonio magazine. After Harry passed, she moved to Hollywood Park, a wonderful place to spend her retirement years! Community friends honored her with a drive-by birthday parade on her 100th birthday.
Bobbie is survived by numerous friends, nieces and nephews. She was generous to a fault and loved by all who knew her. Many thanks and deepest gratitude to Dr. Hoan Pho and his staff for their many years of kindness and care, and to the staff of Village of the Incarnate Word for their recent loving care for our beloved Miss Bobbie and for their concern for her family.
A Memorial Service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, Texas.
Interment will be held at a future date at Athens City Cemetery in Athens, Texas.
