Brian Boylan was a man of many faces. To some, he was a father. To some, he was a husband. To some, he was a leader. To others, he was a rock. But to the people who really knew him, deeply and at his core, he was a hero.
That is not to say he was a hero who showed up in only the most pivotal of moments, there simply to save the day. Brian Boylan was a hero, is a hero, in the every day, the moment to moment. In the darkness, where hope is but a faint memory, he guided his family and friends through. But in the light, where most just settle for basking in the rays, he always reminded those around him what it took to get there, what it would take to maintain it, and the possibilities of even higher highs, even happier happiness.
For a kid who had nothing, he became a man who had it all. He had it all because, through the traversing of life, he figured out that all that mattered was happiness. All that mattered was love. All that mattered was cherishing what you had, never giving up on what you wanted, and being surrounded by those who love you. That wisdom, and his ability to make people realize that through the way he lived his life, was his super power.
The lessons that Brian taught are carried on by those who survive him. The people he influenced through his over 30 years working for Applebee’s will always remember him and how he put people above profits, empathy over earnings. His friends will remember him for the way he could make anyone laugh, whether it be because of a great story or an on the spot joke. His wife will remember him as her best friend, her rock, and the man with whom she built a life that carries on with the gift of all the love he had to give. His children will remember him for always being there, always making sure they knew they were loved and valued for just being themselves, and for teaching them what it takes to be a good person in a world of chaos. He may be gone in one form, but his legacy will carry on forever through their lives, built on the lessons he taught all those around who had the honor and privilege to know him.
