

Bruce was born on October 26, 1961, in Baytown, Texas to his parents Elaine Bruce and Cameron Gates. Bruce graduated from Gregory Portland High School in 1979 and attended the University of Texas at Austin. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Geological Sciences in 1984 and Master of Science in Geological Sciences in 1987. He was a successful oil and gas geologist and executive. His professional career began at Bright & Company before he established his own energy exploration company, U.S. Enercorp, LTD in 1994. In 2015, the company was reorganized and formed into Ageron Energy, LLC. His career mainly focused on oil and gas exploration in South Texas with additional projects in the Bakkan Formation and the country of Morocco.
His proudest success was his family. Bruce is survived by his wife, Allison, of 38 years and their two children, his son Connor and wife Carley; his daughter Julia; and his grandson Cameron. Bruce is also survived by his sister Lynne DiFrancesco and brother Cameron Gates, along with many other loved ones. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Elaine Bruce and Cameron Gates, along with his brother Brock Gates.
He will be missed every day by his family. Bruce will be remembered for his extraordinary intellect, inquisitive mind, lively debates, his love of sailing, saltwater fishing, and generosity to all. There was never a dull moment when Bruce was around.
A gathering to celebrate his life will take place on Monday, April 27, 2026, from 10-12 at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave, San Antonio, Texas. In lieu of flowers, you can contribute in his name to South Texas Geological Society (8620 N New Braunfels Ave, San Antonio, Texas), of which Bruce was a long-time member.
