Hilde was born and raised in Pottmes, Germany, to Martin Marb and Rosina Marb. She was the last survivor of her nine siblings.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Hilde was renowned for her culinary skills and famous for her braided bread and pastries. She loved the Big Bend region and its people and spent many years visiting the area with her camping friends from across the country and beyond. Hilde was fluent in Spanish and had many friends from Boquillas, Mexico and would cross the Rio Grande by boat, while Victor (the "Singing Man of Boquillas") stood in the river and sang to her, and would ride a donkey into town to see everyone. She enjoyed running a “Bed and Breakfast” for her many friends and relatives from Germany, who would visit often. She had a knack for forming life-long friendships anywhere she went. Hilde always had a smile and a laugh for everyone and could always find the positive in any situation.
Hilde is survived by her children, Maximilian L. Maule (Diane Rose), Edward M. Maule (Cindy) and Sharon E. Maule; grandchildren, Jason E. Maule (Melinda Salinas), Thomas J. Maule IV and Travis W. Maule (Lauren); and great granddaughter, Kennedy L. Maule.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max D. Maule (Lt. Col., Ret’d.), and a son, Thomas D. Maule.
