

Colonel Burton Loren Lucas, Jr., United States Marine Corps Retired, known to his friends as "Bud", age 87, of San Antonio, died peacefully Saturday, March 13, 2010. His loving wife of 63 years, Elizabeth, was at his side when he died. Bud graduated from the U. S. Naval Academy 1944, and served in China, Korea, and Vietnam during 26+ years of distinguished military service. He earned Master's degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, Secondary Education and Saint Mary's University, San Antonio, TX, History. After retiring from the Marine Corps, Bud started his second career as an educator at Tafolla Middle School San Antonio teaching math. In addition to his wife, Bud is survived by son, Burt of Mililani, HI; daughter, Meg of Saint Charles, MO; daughter-in-law, Lorraine Mrs. Burt Lucas; granddaughter, Ruth Mrs. Shane Wilson; and great-grandson, Max Thomas Wilson, both of Torrance, CA. Bud was an avid golfer, a voracious reader and fan of all genre of music. He also enjoyed body-surfing, badminton, roller-skating, ballroom dancing and taking trips with his family and friends. The family is forever grateful to the staff at Air Force Village Heath Care Center Units I and II where Bud lived the last two years of his life. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 11:00 am at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough. Visitation will begin at 10:00 the same day. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation to a charity of your choice be made in Bud's name.
