Candelaria M. Balderas devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother entered the gates of heaven on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the age of 79 in San Antonio, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents Gregorio and Catarina Moreno along with her brother Ramon Moreno. She is survived by her caring husband, Tomas H. Balderas, sons Tomas Balderas Jr. (Celia), David Balderas (Margie) daughters Lucinda Balderas, Virginia Olvera (Robert) and Linda Vidal (Eric). She is also survived by her brother Juan Moreno (Estela), five grandchildren: Tesla Lopez (Nicholas), Nicholas Balderas, Lisa Balderas, Stephani Pena, Elias Vidal and three great granddaughters: Maliyah Balderas, Nicholina Lopez and Nicholette Lopez.
She earned her G.E.D in 1981 at the age of 40. She showed her family to always finish what they start.
During her younger years, she was a professional seamstress where she enjoyed making matching dresses and outfits for her girls. Her sewing talent took her to sewing bride’s maid dresses and quinceanera court dresses. Her biggest challenge was making ballet folklorico dresses without a pattern. Her hobbies included sewing, baking, cooking, traveling, listening to music, playing casino slot machines and surprisingly fishing.
She was a dedicated lifetime parishioner of St. Timothy’s Catholic Church where she was a volunteer and a worker for the parish since 1950. Over the years, since the early 1970’s , she was employed with the Youth After School Nutrition Program, the Senior Citizen Nutrition Program, and Parish Office secretary and book keeper under the direction of at least 10 priest. She retired in 2008. Since the 1950’s, she volunteered at the parish with several organizations such as La Vela Alter Society, Eucharistic Minister, Religion Classes, Parish Council and Church Choir where she held positions as president, treasurer and coordinator of fundraiser events. She was involved and volunteered with her husband in their children organizations at the parish. Her passion was cooking, where she prepared food for several fundraisers and festivals thru-out the year. In 2014, she was a recipient of the Lumen Gentium Award presented by the Archdiocese Catholic Church of San Antonio, of which, she was extremely proud and honored to receive the award.
Being a loving mother, she also embraced and took care of her niece, Norma Yanez, nephews Ramon Moreno Jr. and Gregorio Moreno while their mother was terminally ill. She will also be missed by numerous extended family members and friends.
The Balderas family would like to give thanks to her primary doctor, Ramon Colen, MD and staff at Health Texas for being so caring over the pass 13 years. Also thanks to The Fresenious Kidney Care (Dialysis) for playing a role on her well- being for approximately 12 years.
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions--only 50 guests will be allowed in the funeral home chapel.
