His unwavering commitment to his nation and its values stood as a testament to his character and to the principles he held dear.
Though his love for his country was immense, it was perhaps only eclipsed by the love he had for his family. Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean Reed, with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories and fifty-five years of marriage, and his youngest brother, Thomas Reed. Lovingly remembering Charles are his younger brother, Flint Reed (Jill); his three children: Charles Reed Jr. (Lisa), Donald Reed, and Linda Clark (Joseph); eight grandchildren: Brandon, Dan, Chase, Anna (Jonathan), Kelsey (Andrew), Daniel (Hannah), Alyssa, and AJ; five great-grandchildren: Layla, Hudson, Raven, Henry, and Jay; and his devoted companion, Heather Lane. They will carry forward the memories of his warmth, wisdom, and the gentle strength he embodied.
Charles was an avid tennis player and golfer, finding solace on the greens of April Sound in Conroe, Texas. He was constantly working on his swing, and his passion for the game was matched by his skill. He was also an active member of his community and served as Board Chairman at April Sound Church, volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels, and was an avid Bridge player.
The memory of Captain Charles Reed will be held in the highest regard by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life's journey, from the young man who stepped into the Naval Academy with dreams of service to the esteemed Captain who led with valor, and the patriarch who provided a foundation of love and stability for his family, is a story of a life well-lived.
