

One of four sons born to Smiley E. Houston and Amy Belcher Houston, Carl was a regular career Officer in the U.S. Air Force, serving during World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War.
He was a graduate of Auburn University Alabama Polytechnic Institute Class of 1948 and the Air Force Institute of Technology, Class of 1954.
Carl is survived by three sons, Ted of Washington, D.C., Fred and wife, Joni of Princeton, IN, David of Clearwater, FL and a daughter, Diane Halbert and husband, Roland of Brunswick, GA; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He is also survived by three brothers, Winfred and wife, Henrietta of Loganville, GA, Wallace and wife, Sue of Valley, AL and Bennie and wife, Olive of Santa Maria, CA. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 36 years and mother of his children, Virginia Tiner, Houston, and wife, Jo Ryan, Houston, to whom he was married for 14 years.
Burial will be in the Brunswick Memorial Park, Brunswick, GA, where he lived after retiring from active duty until the death of his first wife, Virginia.
A memorial service was held at the Towers Retirement Community on Friday, March 24, 2006, for his many friends in San Antonio. Carl was an inspiration to many and in particular, his children. He taught us manners and what it means to be an American. God bless you, Dad.
