Carmen Pachecano Garay, born April 1, 1933 in Thorndale, Texas, left to join her beloved Jesus on 11/3/2016. Carmen was raised in Central Texas, but traveled at a young age as a migrant worker, assisting her eleven siblings and her parents, Reymundo and Anita Pachecano. They harvested cotton, strawberries, and more, in many states. The family settled in a home built by her father and older sisters on Dartmouth Street in San Antonio. She married Pablo Garay in 1953 and bore six children. She would eventually raise all six on her own as a waitress for H. L. Green Department Store in downtown San Antonio. Her contributions in life include raising faith filled children, a Teacher, Social Worker, Christian men who have provided ministry work , including missionary, music, charitable fundraisers and other activities, and her own testimonials for God that inspired generations. She gave her all to the Lord after becoming saved at Templo Bethel, where she participated as she could, supporting their various missions. During this phase of her life, Carmen devoted her time to caring for her father, mother, and aunt. In more recent years, she worshipped at La Promesa, where she has been blessed to have captured the hearts of so many brothers and sisters in Christ. She was gifted with the gift of speaking in tongues. Carmen engaged her final years sharing God’s Word, giving “nuggets of wisdom” to everyone she met. She received many blessings and miraculous healings. As her time came, she went willingly and joyfully to meet her loving Savior.
Carmen has joined her father, mother, and sisters, Jesusita Pachecano, Theadora Garcia, Olivia Pachecano, and Mary Pachecano in Heaven. She is survived by her siblings: John Pachecano (Velia Pachecano), Juanita Palomo (Gilbert Palomo), Anita Perez-Otero, Rita Franks, Raymond Pachecano (Yolanda Pachecano), Linda Esqueda, Maria Luisa Pachecano (Andrew Hibben), and Richard Pachecano; her children: Carmen D. Garay, Debra Elliott (Patrick Elliott), Paul Garay, Allen Garay, Steven Garay (Isabel Garay), and Vincent Garay (Norma Garay); her grand-children: Dylan Warren (Lindsay Warren), James Aldridge (Kenisha Aldridge), Jeremy Aldridge (Autumn Aldridge), Adrienne Villela (Richard Villela), Carmen Vincent, Christian Arrellano, Marlo Arrellano, Jose Arrellano, Victor Arrellano, Valerie Garay (Jesse Gil), Clifford Garay, Vincent Garay, Elena Duran (Steven Estrada), Raquel Duran (Ramiro Herrera), and Angelica Garay; twenty-seven great grand-children; and a continually growing number of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, etc.
We will remember Carmen’s strength, her love for Jesus, her kind and inspiring words, and her wonderful sense of humor. We have been blessed to have shared this time on earth with her, and will think of her in Heaven as she once described herself in a poem she wrote, as the lavender tulip in the garden of the Lord. We all will continue to love her very much.
