

Carmen Jackson Lantz, was born October 27, 1902 in Comanche, TX to Thomas H. Jackson and Julia Wagnon Jackson. Her paternal grandparents were Henry Clay Jackson and Martha Jane Whaley Jackson. Her maternal grandparents were Robert M. Wagnon and Elizabeth Matilda Bates Wagnon. Carmen Lantz had four siblings, Whaley Wagnon Jackson 1907, Alice Fern Jackson Marecek 1912, Thomas Hadden, Jr. 1914, and Martha Ruth Jackson 1916. Mrs. Lantz attended Hardin Simmons College in Abilene where she majored in art, studying such subjects as oil painting, china painting and all types of handwork such as tatting, knitting and embroidery. Her oil paintings were chosen for an exhibit, which traveled throughout Texas, and several of her hand-embroidered pieces were shown at the State Fair of Texas. Carmen Lantz married Samuel Bryan Mosley in 1920 at the age of eighteen. Mrs. Lantz married her second husband LeRoy D. Lantz on April 4, 1944 and was widowed on March 20, 1973 after twenty-nine years of marriage. Carmen Lantz joined the Baptist Church at an early age and her participation in church activities continued until she was no longer able to attend regularly due to her health. Mrs. Lantz became a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution in the 1930's and actively participated in various Daughters of the American Revolution activities throughout her lifetime. Mrs. Lantz continued to live in her own home in San Antonio until her passing on January 3, 2003 at the age of 100 years, two months and seven days. She was preceded in death by her husbands Samuel Bryan Mosley and LeRoy D. Lantz and her parents. Carmen is survived by her sister, Alice Fern Marecek of Beeville, TX; step-son, Douglas Lantz of Marion, OH; nephew, David Ray Jackson of Brownwood, TX; nieces, Frances Valentine of Comanche, TX, Patricia Andrews of San Antonio, TX, Janis Lain of Hamlin, TX and Carolynn Helgren of Refugio, TX.
