

Carol Ina McClusky, 89, passed away on July 2, 2025 in San Antonio, Texas. On February 5, 1936, the doctor who lived next door and was home for lunch was summoned to the Seguin home of Sophia and Edwin Forshage to assist in the birth of their fourth child. Carol Ina, who was subsequently welcomed by her two older sisters, Frances who became Frances Terry and Marian who became Marian O'Neal but not so much by her three year old brother, Edwin, Jr., who took her around the neighborhood trying unsuccessfully to trade her when she was two weeks old for candy or cowboy boots. She remembered a very happy childhood, riding a bicycle ten blooks to school, getting to know every family along the way. In the summer sometimes cooling off in the Geronimo Creek. She also taught swimming lessons and was a life guard at Starkey Park. She received a BS degree in secondary education from Texas Tech where she met her husband, William McClusky, an Air Force flight instructor at the time. She very much enjoyed the many opportunities of military transfers, traveling, learning about other cultures and making new friends, which continued after Bill retired from the military. They lived overseas twenty-five years, was proficient in German, French and could socialize and drive a hard bargain in Arabic. She taught children from 32 countries at the Riyadh International School and later served as a technical librarian for the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Planning. While living in Jeddah, she learned about the 300-year-old merchant villas, the families who lived there and was often asked to give tours of the historic district. In her spare time she painted, played tennis and taught art classes.
After she and Bill settled in San Antonio, she volunteered at the SAMM shelter for 10 years, was active in the San Antonio Art League, Southwest School of Art, McNay Art Museum where she was Docent Chairman 2004-2005, participated in two book clubs, played Mah Jongg, was a member of Le Club which she chaired 2012-2013.
Carol was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, her parents, sisters and brothers-in-law, brother and daughter, Meg. She is survived by her son, Will, and her sister-in-law, Alta Forshage, and nieces and nephews.
A Rosary service will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025 from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Porter Loring Mortuary 1101 McCullough Ave San Antonio Texas 78212. A Memorial Mass will be conducted on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 10:30 am in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Burial will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery where she will join her beloved husband and daughter.
