Carol L. Mendiola-Mooers, age 48, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025 in Nome, Alaska. Carol was a beloved resident of Unalakleet, Alaska at the time of her death, where she was serving as the school counselor for the Unalakleet school system. Carol was born on August 19, 1976 in her hometown of San Antonio Texas, to Homer and Christina Mendiola. Carol and her family were lifelong members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Carol’s early age studies were experienced in Ankara, Turkey and Bremerhaven, Germany. She and her family returned to San Antonio where Carol attended Ursuline Academy until its closure during her sophomore year. She graduated from Incarnate Word High School in 1994. She received her Bachelor's degree from University of Texas at San Antonio, and her Master’s degree from Texas A&M San Antonio.
Her innate love of people, travel, history, and the beauty of the arts were the segue of her life’s journey. Carol enlisted in the army in 2001. She served during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. While on active duty she met her husband, Rodney, at Fort Bliss, Texas; after being married, they had two sons, Aaron and Hunter Mooers.
During Carol’s career as a teacher and counselor she served students in San Antonio, Texas, Central Maine, and in Unalakleet Alaska.
Carol is survived by her husband, Rodney Mooers; sons, Aaron Mooers and Hunter Mooers; mother, Christina Mendiola; father, Homer Mendiola; Sister, Sharon Florence; and her brother, Adrian Mendiola.
Carol was also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a large extended family.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 P.M on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 E.
Funeral Services will be held the following day, Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 8134 Blanco Road.
Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road.
