Heaven gained an angel on March 14, 2021.
Caryn (Ryn) Elaine Hofmann was born December 11, 1962 in Karnes City, Texas.
She lived in Karnes City with her family, parents Arnold and Rosalie, brother Paul and sister Dione, until she graduated from high school in 1981. Caryn was an amazing athlete and was a member and officer of many high school organizations. With a basketball scholarship, she attended Blinn College, played basketball, made a life long best friend in Robin Osborn, and had just a little fun until she graduated with an Associate’s degree in 1983.
She then followed her passion of becoming a physical therapist and attended Southwest Texas State University and accomplished that dream in 1987.
She worked for over 30 years with the geriatric population as a physical therapist, Director of Rehabilitation, and Regional Director of Rehabilitation. It was at this time that she met the love of her life, Patricia (Tricia) Flores.
For over 31 years, Caryn and Tricia were a model of what a full, deep, honest, loving, and selfless relationship is. Two truly became one. Together, they created a loving home which provided an inclusive environment and ensured countless opportunities to celebrate life, love each other and all who entered their home.
Caryn leaves a legacy of unconditional LOVE LOVE LOVE through her actions of selflessness, acceptance, forgiveness, patience, and her passion for always taking care of others by putting everyone’s needs before hers. Her niece, Karalie, said “My aunt is the symbol of what love means; unconditional, bright, loud, and everlasting.”
She devoured every aspect of living with her whole heart. Her magnetic personality led to an endless list of friends. Caryn exemplified FUN and was constantly planning the next opportunity to celebrate life with those she loved.
A trip to the beach was one of her favorite celebrations. She enjoyed many years of going to the beach with her many families! It was a time to relax, play, eat a lot, drink...a little, and remember special people from beach trips from the past. Her nephew, Sam, explained she is now “on a cosmic shore somewhere sipping Stella Artois and listening to the waves.”
Her other favorite place was the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival! She and Tricia attended almost every year beginning in 1991. All who had the privilege to join them will agree that this was an awesome time of good food, good music, good fun, and the best vibes.
Caryn was the reason for the magical energy of the beach and Jazz Fest. She would say “My favorite place is wherever y’all are”.
Caryn was greeted in heaven by her parents Arnold and Rosalie Hofmann. Others who preceded her are her grandparents Paul and Bertha Hofmann and Allen and Annie Marie Machost, aunts and uncles Dorothy and Andy Vance, LouAnn and Jim Holcomb, and Frank Scoggin, cousins Pam Kaye and Lori Smith, and great aunts Gisa and Liesbeth Schmidt.
She is survived, loved, admired, and will always be missed by her Love Tricia Flores, brother and sister-in-law Paul and Barb Hofmann, and sister and brother-in-law Dione and Brian McDowell. She will always be treasured by her nephews Daniel(wife Katie) Hofmann, Michael(wife Stacy) Hofmann, Tim Hofmann, Rob(wife Brooke) Flores and great niece Lydia, Natalia Flores and Josiah David Chaney. She will forever be praised and adored by her twins, Samuel and Karalie McDowell. She is also survived by Arnold’s wife, Shirley Hofmann, her aunt Ona Scoggin, her uncle Allen Wayne Machost, aunt Hope Jendrzey, aunt/uncle Lillie Mae and Willie Lamprecht and numerous cousins.
Special friends who love her and who she considered family are Robin Osborn and Leslie Folsom, Pam Simon, Anthony Simon, Jennifer Simon and Kendal Simon, Kelly, Nikki, Brett, and Jake Minyard.
We will all continue to share Caryn’s positive outlook, legacy, and vibe.
