Catherine Alden Golightly (Kitty), age 98, resident of San Antonio, died April 11, 2020. She was born October 22, 1921, in Columbus, New Mexico, daughter of Harry Ennes Alden and Maria Sabas de Jesus Grijalva Alden. She graduated from El Paso High School in El Paso, Texas at age 16. She attended College of Mines (University of Texas at El Paso) while she worked at S. H. Kress store, Southwestern Bell Telephone Company & United States Censorship Office during World War II. She married Casey Golightly in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Mesa Arizona Temple on February 2, 1944. Their five children were born in El Paso, Texas. In February 1958, the family moved to San Antonio, Texas, where they have been ever since, with the exception of one year in New Orleans, Louisiana and 18 months serving a mission in Santiago, Chile for the Church. She finished her college degree at St. Mary's University and began her 20-year teaching career in the Northside Independent School District. She taught one year at Sul Ross, six years at Holmes High School and 13 years at Marshall High School.
Four and half of her retirement years were filled with teaching and participating in Family History work in Texas, Oklahoma, parts of Missouri and Arkansas. She and her husband traveled weekly to Dallas for 10 years to serve as Ordinance workers at the Dallas Texas Temple. In 2000, they were called to go to Chile for 18 months to work in the temple there. When they returned to the states, they were immediately called to serve weekly in the Houston Texas Temple. They served in the Houston Temple until the San Antonio Texas Temple was built. She helped her husband with the challenge of furnishing ushers for the 3-week Open House preceding the dedication of the temple.
She worked at the San Antonio Texas Temple from the time it was dedicated in 2005 until 2016 when they had to be released from service due to health reasons. She and her husband served in various temples for 26½ years. During her lifetime she fulfilled many church assignments at both the Ward and Stake level. That service included 17 years in the Primary organization for children and many more with the Young Women, Relief Society and Sunday School. She was never comfortable without an assignment to work in the Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Pauline (Golightly) Jenson, (Dr. Hal B.
