

Cathy Lyn (Carlson) Garcia passed away on September 9, 2020, at St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, TX due to complications from diabetes. Born in San Antonio on February 5, 1963, she was the daughter of Oliver and Rebecca (Beutnagel) Carlson.
She attended Thomas Jefferson High School, class of 1981, but left high school shortly before graduation and earned her GED. She enjoyed drive-in movies as a teen and going to the coast in Rockport. Cathy worked newspaper routes with her two sisters while in high school to help her family with expenses. After high school, she worked at Montgomery Wards and Handy Dan, where she met her future husband Adin Garcia in August 1987.
Cathy enjoyed investing in the lives of the people she was surrounded by with gifts and bringing people joy in thoughtful ways during personal moments and especially during the holidays. She enjoyed reading and writing, jigsaw puzzles, visiting the zoo, botanical gardens, movie theaters, and attending concerts. She will be remembered for her sharp mind, bright smile, kindness, and dry sense of humor.
She is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth and Rebecca; husband, Adin Garcia; four siblings, David Carlson (wife, Linda), Alice Niell (husband, David), Susie Carlson, and Daniel Carlson; two cousins Michael Moore and Othniel Graichen (wife, Kathy), and two aunts Camilla Hardmeyer and Billie Downing. She was predeceased by her parents and best friend (Steve Jones).
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, September 20 at 1pm at the residence of Elizabeth and Rebecca. Please contact (210) 294-6258 for the address or zoom link, and please wear a mask if attending in person. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the San Antonio Zoo.
