Cecile Cele Friedland passed away on May 19th, 2007 at the age of 77. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to Sam and Betty Schwartz. She married Darvin Friedland in 1949 and they settled in San Antonio, Texas. Cele was very active in her community and served as the President of the Maverick Elementary PTA, President of the Agudas Achim Sisterhood, President of the Whispering Oaks Garden Club, and was a Bluebird at the Methodist Hospital for many years.
Cele's artistic talent was best exemplified by the exquisite quilts and knitting projects that she made and gave to relatives and friends. She was an excellent cook and homemaker who prided herself on managing her home for her husband and children. Cele is survived by her husband; Darvin, her children, Eric and his wife Julia, Gerri Friedland and Curtis Friedland; grandchildren, Marie-Louise, Sam, and Jack; her brother, Leonard Schwartz, her sisters, Shirley Blanks and Bonnie Wiederman, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and treasured friends. Cele will be dearly missed.
Her zest for life and optimistic outlook made her the center of a large close knit family who all lived a few blocks from each other for most of their lives. Even Cele's close friends lived near by and they formed a tight bond that lasted for decades. Cele will be missed most of all by Darvin, her husband of fifty-eight years. Together they raised a family, celebrated the joy of a large family, traveled extensively, and enjoyed a wonderful life. Cele was the epitome of an all American wife and mother. She touched many lives and will be remembered and loved forever.
